Hope Changes Grief.

Sometimes I feel like
my grief
will
consume me.
I'm afraid
of the
depth
of my
loss.
I can't believe
this pain
will ever
lessen.
I don't know if I'm
strong enough
to live in this reality.
I feel
so alone.
I don't know
how to pray
anymore.
Even
happy memories
are difficult now.
I feel
so much pain
and
so little joy.
I don't want a new normal.
I want to go back
to how things were.
My heart is
broken.
I am
broken.
You are not alone.

God is present in the midst of struggle. Learn more about the hope that changes grief through video stories and scripture below.

Lord,
you turn us into dust.
Our years come to an end
like a sigh.
-Psalmist,
The Bible
God
accepts
my grieving
lamentations.

O Lord, all my longing is known to you;

my sighing is not hidden from you.

My heart throbs, my strength fails me;

as for the light of my eyes-it also has gone from me.

Psalm 38:9-10

With my voice I cry out to the Lord;

with my voice I make supplication to the Lord.

I pour out my complaint before him;

I tell my trouble before him.

I cry to you O Lord, I say, "You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living."

Give heed to my cry, for I am brought very low.

Psalm 142:1-2, 5-6a

Come quickly, Lord, and answer me,

for my depression deepens.

Don't turn away from me, or I will die.

Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning,

for I am trusting you.

Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.

Psalm 143:7,8
God
is present
in the darkness.

Has God forgotten to be gracious?

Has he in anger shut up his compassion?

And I say, "It is my grief that the right

hand of the Most High has changed."

Psalm 77:9-10

O Lord, God of my salvation, when, at night,

I cry out in your presence,

let my prayer come before you;

incline your ear to my cry.

Psalm 88:1-2

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,

and in his word I hope;

my soul waits for the Lord more than

those who watch for the morning.

Psalm 130:5-6a
God
provides a
refuge for the
brokenhearted.

When you pass through the waters,

I will be with you; and through the rivers,

they shall not overwhelm you;

when you walk through fire

you shall not be burned,

and the flame shall not consume you.

Isaiah 43:2

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High

will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

This I declare about the Lord:

He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;

he is my God, and I trust him.

He will cover you with his feathers.

He will shelter you with his wings.

Psalm 91:1-2, 4a

I will not leave you orphaned;

I am coming to you.

John 14:18

With God
I can be
completely honest.

Lord God, my savior, I cry out all day,

at night I come before you.

Hear my prayer; listen to my cry for help!

So many troubles have fallen on me

that I am close to death.

I am like all others who are about to die;

all my strength is gone.

Lord, every day I call to you

and lift my hands to you in prayer.

Psalm 88:1-4, 9b

Our High Priest is not one who cannot feel

sympathy for our weakness. On the contrary,

we have a High Priest who was tempted in every

way we are, but did not sin. Let us have confidence,

then, and approach God's throne, where there is grace.

There we will receive mercy and find grace to help us

just when we need it.

Hebrews 4:15-16

Therefore I will not restrain my mouth;

I will speak in the anguish of my spirit;

I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

Job 7:11
With God
there is hope
in grieving.

God says, "I will save those who love me and protect those who acknowledge me as Lord. When they call to me, I will answer them; when they are in trouble, I will be with them. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with long life, I will save them."

Psalm 91:14-16

Happy are those who mourn;

God will comfort them.

Matthew 5:4

For we know that up to the present time all of creation groans with pain, like the pain of childbirth. But it is not just creation alone which groans; we who have the Spirit as the first of God's gifts also groan within ourselves as we wait for God to make us his children and set our whole being free.

Romans 8:22-23
With God
I can live in
abundant love.

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life,

nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things

to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth,

nor anything else in all creation, will be able to

separate us from the love of God

in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39

How precious is your steadfast love, O God!

All people may take refuge

in the shadow of your wings.

They feast on the abundance of your house,

and you give them drink from the

river of your delights.

For with you is the fountain of life;

in your light we see light.
